I truly wasn't expecting below 50 degrees in June though. Is this common? Am I going to have to deal with this weather all Summer? I was really looking forward to living here, but if this is the norm, I might have to rethink signing a 6 month lease. (I am monthly now)

No, this isn't normal. I'm pretty disappointed too.

Florida native to Chicago generally doesn't work out due to the weather.

50 degrees in June isn't so common it happens every year, but it is common enough. I remember a few years ago I canceled plans to go to Ravinia (thankfully, I hadn't bought tickets as it wasn't the sort of show to sell out) in late June due to weather like we are having now.

It is typically cool, but not this bad. Typically you can expect mid 60s along the shore to 4 miles inland until about now to maybe 6/15, and mid 70s in the 5-30 mile inland range (including O'Hare where the records are taken from) and upper 70s-low 80s beyond especially the further south you go (Plainfield, Joliet, New Lenox, Aurora). What we have going on here is that the winter was so cold that the lake water made it right down to freezing basically in January and February and its going to take a long long long time now for that water to warm back up, so until it does (above 60 degree water) you can expect cold weather any time the winds come out of an easterly direction. Here is what we're battling... Note the majority of the water is still in the upper 40s, blow wind over it and what do you get? Cold air. Michigan Sea Grant Coastwatch This is also a good map I use alot that clearly can show the power of the lake on days where winds are blowing out of the east ( You won't see the effect too much anymore until next March, but there is still some). The map is on the bottom of the page, note the temps over the metro area may range up to 10 degrees from Gurnee to Lansing, IL, but go further inland and it goes up further. Weather Center - WGN

Yes, this is why I am moving to the deep South in 1...2...
I love hot, hot, hot weather. When I wake up at 5:30 in the morning, to walk the dog, it better be at least 60-65 degrees. I want 75 by 11 am and 85 by 2pm with Sunshine and a vibrant blue sky that radiates with energy. That's my ideal day. I love to play basketball, outdoors, and love biking. The one thing I love more than anything is the sun. That's why we, as humans, worshipped it for millenia. I just love that warmth, you can't beat it. I like to lounge around the pool and BBQ under that great halide in the sky. Chicago isn't for me...I think even Tennessee would be too cold/cloudy for me. To each their own though. We all have our own preferences.

Yes, Global Warming is BS.
Also, 3 years ago the last 3 days of May reached nearly 100 degrees (in the Southern Burbs far away from the Lake). In fact, we really haven't had a really hot summer since then. So, I was hoping this year would be the year we'd get it. Now I'm hoping the hot weather, due to its' late arrival, will stick around through the middle of October. Maybe it'll hang around a little later in the year now.

You don't have to move that far to get away from this crap. Illinois itself actually has pretty nice weather overall, just not Chicago. Bloomington's and Peoria's weather when I lived there IMO was rather pleasant I must say. When the calendar said spring it was spring, not spring one minute then winds swing around to the NE and temps plummet some 10-20 degrees depending on the time of the year (typically March and April), summers were brutally hot, as were falls usually (until Oct 15), and winters were cool and rainy for the most part instead of a mixed bag.

Just stick around, if you don't like today's weather, it'll change.
We have had snow showers and 78 all in the same week, it's Chicago.

A little freaked out - I am planning a birthday party next weekend with 16 kids and parents based on a barbecue and a playground. If the weather sucks I'll have to cram them all in my little apartment.

Or in the same day.
Also, global warming is the average temperature of the entire earth rising, which is definitely happening. Or I suppose the polar ice caps are melting because they feel like it? The question is whether or not this current trend is natural or human-caused.

No, it's not normal.
The average high for June 3rd is 77 degrees, and the average low is almost 60. This morning we were actually only 3 degrees above the record low of 45 degrees set about 25 years ago.
