I don't live in Illinois anymore. Greenville does have a zoo, but it is pathetic compared to either zoo in Chicago. I love the setting of the Lincoln Park Zoo and the awesome skyline you can see from the pond, but Brookfield is a zoo lover's zoo. It's HUGE, but for a fee, there is a tram that you can take around the zoo getting on and off at the various sections. There are a lot more cage-free environments there, which is great for photography (something else I love).
I'm heading up there next week, and hope to get to both zoos during my stay, but Brookfield is near the top of my "to do" list. I really miss it.

Yeah, like Venom said, it's kinda lame. I only do it for the kids. It's hell for me though because I have to pedal while hoping my children don't get curious and jump into the pond.
Anyway, we get the family membership, and the boat rides are free so I don't feel like I'm wasting money.

I paid to go on those once with my kids. I don't remember feeling as ripped off as I would have buying curly fries for $3.50. Once was enough though.
And yes, Brookfield is an bigger ripoff than LPZ when it comes to concessions and parking. I once forgot to pack snacks when I was going there on a free library pass and I spent an exorbitant amount of money on food (in addition to having to pay for parking and the extra exhibits...) It was not a cheap trip.

Two different things.
It's like asking which is better; a gyro or a burritto.
Sure they both are meat and stufff in a wrap but they are totally different.

I used to go to LPZ a lot as a child and remember all the animals being in, IMO, cages that were too small for them (haven't been there in awhile so I'm not sure if this is still the case). I remember watching the animals just constantly pacing in their smallish cages (a sign of animal stress and I thought it was sad). So I guess I'm a sap and worry about how the animals feel in their habitats. It just seemed that the enclosures at Brookfield allowed for happier animals. Plus I just loved Binti the gorilla/boy rescuer! But then I do have some great memories of LPZ during the winter holidays...
