Hmm. I don't remember electing every friend and family member of Todd Stroger to fill unneeded, six figure jobs. Oh, that's right, you don't support unneeded jobs. Well, I don't know of any other kind of patronage job.

A professional governing class protected by civil service isn't accountable to the electorate, Stroger and his cronies are.

Patronage as a method of hiring and the efficiency of those hired are seperate issues. By the way, people with patronage city jobs are now working much harder than they did a generation ago.
