When are most of the stores scheduled to open? I know Jewels will not open until next week and of course Target is open.

Dear Ambroseblack: I will be attending the Jewel opening 06/24/09. The other current tenants open are Subway, Panda Express, T-Mobile, GameStop, Harold's Chicken and Fish (try the hot sauce its fantastic!), Cosmo Beauty. Petco opened around 05/25/09. Marshalls is opening around 08/01/09. Staples is being difficult and decided to push the opening to 02/01/10 (even though I broke my back to finish their construction per their 06/01/09 requirement). LA Fitness is slogging through City Hall trying to get their permits. The store is going to be incredible! I antipicate they will open arond 04/01/10. Fifth Third Bank should get started on their building next month, and will hopefully open by Xmas. Chili's is speeding along and they are very excited to open. I think they will open in October. I finished the Simply Fashions, Nail Works, and Anna's Linens spaces last week, and we are turning it over the to the Tenant's now. They should open within ten days. That leaves Dollar Tree, and Payless Shoes...which should open by October. There are other tenants in the works but the deals are not signed yet (so I would rather not post those yet). Thank you.

Can I tell you, I LOVE this new Target. Not only has it replaced my Crestwood Target shopping, but I go there MORE. ANd I know other Beverly/Morgan Park/Wash Hts families that love it too.
The Blue Island Jewel is closing at the end of June, because it is theoretically being "replaced" by the Marshfield Jewel. While I was not a fan of the BI Jewel, it is sad to see that store go vacant. I'd love to see a hardware store in that spot, though. I think that could succeed. I can tell you most Blue Islanders are not excited/interested about going up to the new location, but time will tell.

I agree about the Target. It is top notch and for whatever reason the workers tend to be in a very good mood compared to South Loop.
Dollar Tree ... ugh. Don't we have enough of those on the south side? Cosmo beauty? Harolds? Hope it doesn't get too ghetto around there. No Check Cashing stores, please.

True, only a wuss would complain about a Harolds on the south side. I've been going to the one 53rd for 25 years, and I'm still alive to tell about it.

On a related note, a new Pete's Market is coming to 95th near Kedzie. I'm a fan but no sooner is the brick laid than a frickin check cashing sign goes up on the other end of the plaza. Do we really need another "currency exchange" on 95th street? Seriously, that area is getting uglier by the day.

I have to agree with you here...there should be some community action about 95th sreet...I wouldn't like liquor stores and check cashing places sprouting up all around me! I hope someone puts that in check!

I went to the new Jewel over the Grand Opening weekend. My impression - its a Jewel. Not the nicest Jewel I've ever seen, not the worst. I'll occasionally stop in I suppose, but they have not converted me. Hopefully the Jewel shoppers will spill over and fill up the Target a little more.
