Default Worked in the US and another country??

Hi all,
I am doing a paper for a class and I have 5 questions for anyone that has worked in the US and another country.
I appreciate all your responses and help!

First off, which countries have your worked in?

1.What was your company culture like in the other country you worked (more relaxed or strict and uptight?)
Was this different or similar to your company culture with your employer in the U.S.?

2. What was your relationship like with upper management in the other country you worked?

Did you have daily contact with your boss?

How does this differ from the United States?

Are there any similarities?

3. Did you feel that you were well informed regarding your job and tasks to fulfill in the other country you worked? Was this similar or different to how your job is in the United States?

4. How did you feel you were treated by your boss and upper management in the other country?

Is this similar or different to your job in the U.S.?

5. How was your relationships with other co-workers in the other country you worked compared to the U.S?

With much gratitude,
Irene

My brother worked as a commodities broker in the UK and Barcelona for 3 years before moving stateside and opening his own company. That career is so wacky with hours and responsibilities that I don't think any of his experiences would be helpful to you as his job responsibilities did not vary whatsoever domestically from abroad. I think benefits is one of the biggest differences from Europe to the US as many European countries have universal or single-payer healthcare so wages can be higher overall to adjust (though the taxes negate the pay raise pretty quickly).

I lived and worked in Costa Rica for a decade.

1.What was your company culture like in the other country you worked (more relaxed or strict and uptight?) The Costa Rican culture in general is more relaxed. Meetings never take place on time, there's less rushing to get things done, and everyone waits until the last minute.

Was this different or similar to your company culture with your employer in the U.S.? Very different

2. What was your relationship like with upper management in the other country you worked? I felt a lot of decisions were made stupidly and from the top down - little democracy, but that could have just been the place where I worked too. I (and other employees) were made to feel like our opinions counted and then were never taken into consideration.

Did you have daily contact with your boss? Yes

How does this differ from the United States? The same

Are there any similarities? Sure - mostly about inter-personal relationships, how co-workers treat each other

3. Did you feel that you were well informed regarding your job and tasks to fulfill in the other country you worked? Was this similar or different to how your job is in the United States? No, we were not informed very clearly about what was expected of us, but I do feel that it is clearer here in the US.

4. How did you feel you were treated by your boss and upper management in the other country? So-so. I feel I was treated respectfully, but it wasn't sincere. My boss could say something sugary sweet at one moment to my face and then say the opposite to someone else, and I would find out through gossip. That sort of stuff doesn't happen where I work now.

Is this similar or different to your job in the U.S.? No, not at all. That might account for some of the differences.

5. How was your relationships with other co-workers in the other country you worked compared to the U.S? I worked in a place with lots of other people and had many good friends whereas now I work in a small office with mostly older people.
