I Heard That Theirs A Good Chance that The Green Line is Expanding To Hegewisch
Has anybody else heard this?
It Sounds Far Fetched to me

Not in our lifetime, if ever. The CTA has just enough funding to keep the L system from rotting into the earth. Barely. They sure as heck don't have anywhere near the capital funding needed to extend a line down to Hegewisch, and if they did, they'd probably use it to build a circle line instead.

No.

The only green line "expansion" plans I am aware of are infill stations at Morgan and somewhere between 16th St. to Cermak, both on the mainline. The Morgan St. one is supposed to be imminent (construction starting this year I thought?) while the South Loop one is still under study, but it should be close to the front of the line of capital projects due to what has been going in South Loop.

Maybe you heard about one of these and confused it with Hegewisch (!)

Default New Green Line stop between Clinton and Ashland?

I heard a rumor the other day that the CTA is planning to add a stop between Clinton and Ashland, like around Morgan or Halstead. Anyone know anything to substantiate this?

The West Loop (around Randolph, between Halstead and Morgan) area has been growing on me for a while now, and if this stop gets added then it would definitely seal the deal for me to buy a place there.

Yes, there are plans to build this stop, which is definitely needed in that area I think. I haven't heard anything about it or seen any construction starting since the winter though. Last I read was that construction is supposed to start this year and that it would be completed at the end of 2010 (who knows why it would take over a year to build an el stop to an already existing track). So, judging by the way things usually work around here, it will probably be done sometime around 2015.....if we're lucky.

The station is planned for Morgan.

It should be on Ashland.

There used to be a stop on Ashland, but the boneheads tore it down.

Well it has taken over a year and more to rehab each existing station on the Brown Line so this should not surprise you.

In fact a year to build a new station from scratch is pretty quick in my book.

Thank you for the information. I think Morgan is a good place for it. Isn't there already a stop on Ashland though...?

Of course, that said construction would start in March of this year. Doesn't seem like its happened yet. In all likelihood, it will be 2012 before its open.

I meant Halsted. Sorry about that.
