Well, I officially couldn't care less about it.

I thought it would be nice to showcase Chicago, but showcase the city after a few necessary improvements. Absent any significant and longlasting benefits to Chicagoans resulting from the tax dollars we are sure to contribute, I don't see how this is anything else than Daley giving a big wet kiss to himself. The city already has enough of a global presence.

Wasting hundreds of millions on a bunch of temporary structures for two weeks of PR isn't worth it.

The Bid was never going to have a lot upgrades to the CTA included in it. In fact, it would be dumb to include them in the bid without funding already lined up. Just imagine this scenario

Chicago Olympic Committee: "we're building an entire new rail line for the Olympics!"
IOC: "how are you paying for it?"
COC: "ummmmmmm..."

The idea is to get the Olympics and use them as leverage to get more Federal funding for improvements. The bid does include loads of new green buses that I assume will go into regular CTA usage at the end of the Olympics.

But, then again, we all know how sometimes the CTA gets "forgotten" and deadlines lapse. Bus rapid transit, anyone?

it's going to be interesting to see how things pan out, that's for sure!

This is what the city is saying:

"As for the cost to attend events, Chicago's bid team is touting that 51 percent of tickets will cost $50 or less. If you want to attend opening ceremonies, that's a bit more pricey: $560 for nosebleeds, nearly $1,700 to sit down front."

Whether or not I believe it is another story. I still think each Chicago resident should get a free ticket to at least one event.
