Default couch reupholstered?

I'm thinking about getting my couch reupholstered. Does anyone know how much this roughly costs in Chicago? If it is a very costly endeavor, I'll think I'll attempt to do it to myself, in which case I'll ask if anyone has any pointers or good tutorials?

This is the couch, except mine was free and is gross.

Thanks!

I have yet to find a good re upholstery service /shop that is inexpensive. The work is NOT easy to do well, requiring precision and strength. The costs of fabrics is all over the map, and quality "fill" or suspenion/ foundation repair items are not generally available without special connections to the trade.

Rarely have I found it to be cheaper to reupholster than to buy new, something that drives my wife and I completely MAD, as she would prefer to get more trendy fabrics but I put down my foot over anything that will not be "timeless" which inevitably than get ruined by a beloved house guest or pet...

It will cost about $500.00. But think twice about doing it yourself unless you have a good size work area. You cannot do it in your home because the dust it creates is unbelievalbe. The dust and fibers will fly everywhere while you are removing the old fabric. It is extremely labor intensive. After you rip off the old fabric which takes some strength, their are literally hundreds of tacks and or nails that have to be removed.
