Chicago or San Diego
My Fiance and I are trying to decide weither to move to Chicago or San Diego. We love both cities and my fiance will work in the theatre wherever we go. (That's what she's going to school for).
In San Diego I would most likely fly for the Border Patrol. I would just like some pros and cons from people who have lived in one of the said cities.

I've never ventured over there. Though, it can't be much worse than the relationships forum. City vs City is like the 4Chan of C-D.

I lived in San Diego before coming to Chicago. They are both good places to live, but for very different reasons. If you like cosmopolitan city life and vibrancy go with Chicago. San Diego is a big drop off from Chicago in terms of culture, nightlife, public transit, and urban living. If you are more into outdoor activities, a laid back culture, and don't mind things on the suburban side (although San Diego has a pretty good downtown for its size), go with San Diego. Good food, bad traffic, and a lot of young transplants can be found in both places. The people in Chicago tend to be more on the "vanilla" side, but you will find a good variety of people in both places. San Diego is slightly more expensive for renters, but it’s much more expensive if you’re looking to buy.

I liked San Diego the couple times I have been there but I don't understand how folks get into this city vs city dilemma. It's one thing when it's Omaha vs Council Bluffs or Milwaukee vs St. Paul because they share commonalities but San Diego vs Chicago? Both are completely different cities and each has its pros and cons. Aside from a fairly liberal population and a large gay demographic I don't see many other similarities.

I've lived in both areas. I think considering, the size of the cities, that Chicago not only offers more, the COL is lower and the traffic flow is much better. Chicago does not have Boney's, and I am not too sure about Albertson's. but it does have Cosco, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and IKea. Chicago has two airports, Navy Pier, Shedd Aquarium and some very nice upscale stores.
Chicago has four seasons and the "Outer Drive" that follows the course of Lake Michigan for a few miles. Chicago offers world class cuisine, entertainment and the upscale living it is well known for. Overall, considering the cities in southern California, in my humble opinion, LA is more like Chicago than San Diego. .
