Default Street Parking near Irving Park & Ashland

I'm moving into a place at Irving Park and Ashland near the end of August, and while I don't have to bring my car, I'd like to if I can. I'm wondering how difficult street parking will be? I checked the nearest side street behind my building and it's listed as being parking for Cubs night games, but other than that I have no idea. Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, from that part of the city, is there a "doable" route that will allow me to skirt traffic on I-90 heading west? I realize there will be stop lights and such, but rather than sit still on the freeway, I thought I'd see if anyone had any shortcuts.

Thanks.

Any map will show that there are alternatives to sitting in bumper to bumper traffic. My el cheapo GPS allows me to mostly avoid getting lost when I do that. Some neighborhoods have gotten speed bumps on side streets to discourage cut through traffic, and with Cubs traffic I can't say I blame 'em.

Lincoln Ave runs mostly NW to Oakton but Elston to Milwaukee is even easier. Not sure that moves any faster, but it can be more interesting and has lots more hot dogs places
