I better not get a ticket for a sticker that falls off when I'm parked on a city street.
The first batch of bout 150,000 stickers had defective adhesive.

Do yourself a favor, find the nearest J.J. Peppers convenience store, ask for something called Windshield Relief or Sticker Shield -- same thing but it goes by two different brand names -- use a bit of clear glue to adhere your sticker to the back side of the Sticker Shield, and then adhere it to your windshield. Plus, that will make it much easier to pull the sticker off your car a year from now so that you don't have to try to scrape it off or have several years worth of stickers on your windshield. I haven't had to fight a window sticker for a decade.

Is this some kind of joke? Or the city is just robbing people blind?
99.9% of places in the country have no idea what a "city sticker" is.

Just more Chicago-area corruption.

It's a tax not corruption. As has been discussed here Chicago taxes are not out of line with comparable cities. Didn't you read the thread?

What are the chances of me getting ticketed for still having last year's sticker on with my new one? I have been too lazy to get a razor blade and some goo-gone.

Technically they can ticket you for it but I've never seen it done or heard of anyone getting such a ticket. But it seems these days the Ticket Nazis have become absolutely zealous, likely under pressure to boost revenue for the city, so I wouldn't chance it.

OK, so, I did something similar to this. I took my non-sticking window stickers and put them face up on the adhesive back of the Sticker Shield so that there was an adhesive border around my defective sticker. Been like that for almost 6 weeks. Yesterday, a walking-patrolling revenue agent was scrutinizing the sticker on one of my cars (the other was away on business) as I watched him from my back yard. Asked him what was up and he told me that he could tell it was "taped" to my windshield (not quite accurate, but close enough) and that when they start enforcing the new city stickers in a week or two, I would probably get a ticket for improper display. When I asked him what the hell I was supposed to do about the fact that there was no other practical way to stick it to my windshield, he told me to go to the clerk's office and exchange it for a new one.

So I did. When I told the security guard I was there to exchange bum stickers for ones that work, he escorted me to the front of the line and I was and out in 15 minutes. I've never experienced this sort of customer service from the city since.... well, ever. It was almost like they actually gave a fk -- talk about a shock to my system.

What's even more shocking is I requested my replacement sticker via email on a holiday (July 4th). I actually got a response 2 days later and got my new sticker in the mail that Saturday. I think somebody is really trying to get the city clerk's office together.

After seeing the article in the sun times, I realized that it's that time of the year again. City stickers expire today.

So rush out and get yours, unless you're Humboldt1 and enjoy shirking your responsibilities.

Rush out and stand in line is more like it.

I got mine at the Jefferson Park clerk's office a couple weeks ago. It was by far the easiest and most pleasant interaction I've ever had with the city. The line was way shorter than the one on Addison by Lane Tech -- it would have been maybe 20 minutes (versus an hour or so at Addison), but then they herded all of us who were paying with credit card and corralled us into a trailer behind the main building. I was in and out in 10 minutes.
