Default I love Chicago

I went to southern illinois this weekend.

Never again.

You gotta drive like 10 miles to get from one town to another and each town is small as hell!!

Everything is trailers, there's like barely buildings over 2 stories....

I hope I never have to leave this area. Geez

I think that saying should be changed to... there is nothing south of the Cook/Will county line. The south suburbs have a lot to see.

I hear ya. A few months back, wifey and I went down to do some wine tasting just south of Carbondale. The wine is actually pretty good, but damn, they ain't got nothin else down there other than the wine. Even the town that's supposedly the anchor of the wine trail (Cobden) has nothing to it...an ugly, uninviting little town with one local bar/restaurant.

The thing is, a few wise investors could get down there and transform that town into a tourist attraction just by prettying up the main street and adding a few cafes and restaurants. Supposedly, that area gets loaded to the gills with wine enthusiasts who drive through Cobden (we went on a week day).

When is the last time you went white water rafting on the Chicago River? When is the last time you went hiking through the wooded trails of a National Forest in Chicago? How about some repelling? Tasted and bought wine next to the grape vines?

I live in Chicago now, however; I lived in southern illinois for 5 years.

Keep in mind that you wont sit in traffic for 2 hours to go 10 miles in southern illinois. You want get harrassed for a "extra buck" in southern illinois and you won't find nearly as many people creating crime and vandalism in the name of getting their next fix.

Those people that live in trailers are any different than the thousands of people that live in public housing or section 8 rentals?

Every place has its good and bad. Positives and negatives everywhere. Next time you take a trip, try to see the goods of your destination as the bads of your home Chicago are pretty easy to see for everybody else.
