Why do you guys care? He can't live in the White House forever. Maybe his family wants to move back in after his term(s). Also, half a century from now that could become a museum or even a Barack Obama Library.

I fail to see why this obligates the Chicago taxpayer to pay for grounds security. It's on account of his federal position that the security is even necessary; therefore the American taxpayer should be picking up the tab.

Also, the fed is reibursing 1.5 mil so I'm sure you'll get around an extra "dollar" on your tax return.

It still is a tourist destination. Everyday I see folks out taking pictures of it. Today I directed some folks from Germany and Spain to the site.

Well I am sure 99.9% of people do not travel to Chicago just to see Obama's house.

^^I think the point is that while they may do other things while in town they will take the Southside bus tour that they wouldn't have taken. They will stop somewhere in Hyde Park to eat lunch. They may head over to MoS&I and spend their money there. People who may never have gone south of Soldier Field otherwise will now be aware of the Southside and may tell their friends what a good time they had and may encourage them to visit as well.

I fail to see how the federal tax payer should pay the burden. If by all accounts he was more or less a resident of Illinois and the Chicago PD is assigned detail to his house, than it should seem the city's residents should be responsible for footing the bill. Is it not the responsibility of the Chicago PD to ensure that it's most important resident is safe? It's not like Obama just bought a condo. His children went to school in Chicago, he payed property taxes in cook county, and he was a senator for the state.

If people have a problem with the cost they should take it up with the department, not everyone else in the country.

And before I get jumped on, I was born in winfield, and my mom still lives in the same townhouse to this day in wheaton.
