Nice. Apparently I've got a few people fooled. I just don't comment on areas of the city I know nothing about, so it sounds like I know what I'm talking about. Don't ask me about Canaryville or Morgan Park, for instance.

jdiddy seems to know the city quite well from different eras, but he is much to funny to put into that traffic cop moderator role. The same goes for sukwoo and CarolinaBredChicagoan (who must be out enjoying the weather lately instead of wasting his time here). I think surlycue and j33 would be good mods because they are knowlegeable regulars who are very helpful. I'm not saying that these two aren't clever and funny (because they are)--but they do seem to have an earnest desire to help people out and to provide straightforward information. Am I wrong?

I think the only way to know for sure is to create a reality show contest! City-Data's Next Top Moderator: Chicago Edition!. contestants will be given a set of Chicago-based trivia questions, set on a scavenger hunt throughout the Chicagoland area, survive 2 nights in the middle of Humboldt Park (the actual park, not the neighborhood. though the latter may be more interesting for some), eat raw earthworms, and must perform a perfect salsa dance at the end. it's the only fair way to decide

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. I think I'd crack under the pressure.

A Mexican polka is probably more typical, that way we get the east Euro thing and the Hispanic thing in one shot.

A question on the side; how come almost everybody thinks a Cuban or Brazilian playing some Afro-Latin jazz kind'a thing is real cool but few admire a Mexican in a cowboy hat playing a polka on an accordian?

For a suburbanite, I know Chicago when it comes to the southside and gangs.

You mean like in 1925 when Frankie McErlane bushwacked Spike O'Donnel outside the Walgreens at 63rd and Western? The first known instance of a Tommy Gun used in gang wars. McErlane missed, one of the few times he did; he killed more men than smallpox.

Tom, walk along 19th or Cullerton west from Blue Island some lazy weekend day. In the summer all the Mexican old timers have their doors and windows open blasting some mixture of Country and Mariachi. And when the older gents dress up they break out the bolero ties.
