Default Logan Boulevard vs. Palmer Square

My fiancee and I have recently started looking at condos. We were trying to buy two-flats, but one short sale and a few months later... yadda-yadda-yadda... we're looking for condos. Our target area has been Logan Square because it has good highway access, public transit, relatively safety and it has a very nice visual aesthetic to the parts that we like.

Currently I live on Sacramento, right off Logan Boulevard. It's a nice quiet neighborhood and being so close to Logan is great.

My question specifically relates to Palmer Square in relation to Logan Boulevard. We've seen a couple places near Logan Boulevard that are near either the Logan Square stop or near California & Logan... which are both great areas. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of places for sale right now in that area. In Palmer Square, however, there seem to be a lot of places for sale within a few blocks of Palmer & Kedzie. We've seen a couple places on Kedzie just north of Armitage, a place just at Sawyer & Palmer & a place on Lyndale between Kedzie and Sacramento.

We tend to stick near Logan Boulevard to hang out and don't know too much about Palmer Square. Nowhere was too bad, but the Lyndale place was a bit troubling because there were a lot of people who were just hanging out in the streets, people screaming at each other and other bad signs like that. This made us question Palmer Square as a whole.

So basically my question is: does Palmer Square compare to the Logan & California area? Or should we just try to find places where we know we like and feel safe?

I don't think there is too much of a difference safety-wise especially if you stay to the north and/or east of Palmer Square itself. Staying North/East will also give you better access to the blue line and the highway. Most incidents seem to happen south of Armitage.

I live near there and the safety of the area doesn't differ much from where you are now. The aesthetics and walkability are not as good as the Logan strip, but it's probably a bit quieter during peak driving hours. Plus Mika's italian ice is over there.
