Woo hoo!
Now we can section 8 them all into my neighborhood!
****ing newsflash: putting the "impoverished" into otherwise nice areas is just as catastrophic a failure as concentrating them all in city block. The only difference is, now, you're sharing their misery with everyone else

Isn't it funny, though... When it's highrise housing being given away free to blacks, its an "...intolerable concentration of poverty that is subhuman and unendurable by anyone of conscience." When its sold to whites at a premium price, it's called "condos" and the values generally rise.

I wish we could bulldoze these buildings with the "residents' still in them. Scum of the ****ing earth.

Venom, I do not agree with his sentiment but I do hope you can agree that there do need to be serious changes made to housing authority in the US and in Chicago. Giving people a free ride is only perpetuating the feeling of entitlement and thus less motivation to pull one's self up by their boot straps. The reason that CHA is made up of primarily black residents is that 1st and 2nd generation (like us?) Latinos find having things handed to you for nothing akin to pity and would be shameful about accepting it. They want to earn what they have through hard work instead of spreading their legs and popping out another check.

Daley can move these people to wherever he wants but **** on a shingle isn't filet mignon and until people are taught viable skills, educated and the drug and gangster lifestyle is shunned by their community this cycle will continue.

You made sense up until the second paragraph. Have you even been inside the projects, there's nothing condo about it- free or not some people just don't have a choice. I remember elevator doors opening up and there was nothing there but the bottom of the shaft, or having to walk up 15 flight of stairs reeking of **** in the dark because the elevator didn't work- and things got a lot worse than that. If you or anyone else think that public housing is a reasonable comparison to condos- get a psychologist to certify you as delusional

That's awful. I would have NEVER went inside one.

Funny. Never been in a condo building populated by white people where the stairwells smelled like ****.... It's "society's fault", I guess... Or maybe it has something to do with "guns, germs and steel" or perhaps the inequality in sentences given for crack cocaine versus powdered... That must be it. That's why buildings given away free to the 'impoverished' turn into feral hellholes, hardly a step above the animals.

As far as the elevator thing, yeah, I saw that episode of "Good Times", too.
Fun fact: Did you know that the woman who played Wilona on Good Times sang the theme song to the Jeffersons? No kidding. I bet the stairwells in George and Weezy's building didn't stink like **** (although if they did, Bentley was probably the culprit. He always struck me as the sort of chap who would take a leak wherever he pleased. Those English people are subhuman like that.)
