Anyone been to the Wal-Mart in da 'hood?
The wife and I went to the Wal-Mart on Touhy in Skokie or Niles or wherever the hell it is to do a major stock-up, and that place massively sucked. They didn't carry half the stuff we wanted and thought we should easily find in a Wal-Mart. Anyone been to the one in Garfield Park or Austin or wherever it is? Is it well-stocked? Is it laid out like the newer ones with wide aisles and polished concrete floors and all? And most importantly, is it well stocked or is it like the old small crappy Wal-Marts?

Damn, I've been going to that Wal-Mart up off the Eden's for over 8 years now and always had a decent experience. I don't have the free-for-all that I did with the Super Wal Mart's where I'm from, but I never had a problem getting what I needed to stock up the basics to bring back to the city.

hahahaha sorry to laugh but the one on Touhy is far superior to the one at North/Cicero. i'll put it this way, I was buying brackets for shelving and the one in the city had a total of two that I needed ... I got everything I needed at the one on Touhy. Granted it's not your typical sprawlburb Wally World, but it's not that terrible.

Well it's terrible enough that we won't be back any time soon. My wife was so frustrated by the end of our trip that she was on the verge of tears. And it sounds like the one in Austin or whatever is no better. *sigh*

Just go to Target. The travel time alone will make up for the cost difference.
I've been to that Walmart on Touhy because of the Babies-R-Us next door, and it seemed like a pretty standard last generation Walmart to me. There's a Target on Touhy just west of the edens too, but of course there are closer locations in the city.

In case you're ever in my neck of the woods I'll save you some time -- don't go to the one on 95th and Western.
In general I find Walmarts are very nice in small towns and far off suburbs. Near urban areas they are a freak show. I stick to Target.

In general, I find the Niles location a little more picked-over than North Avenue. But it's hard to make sweeping conclusions because inventory control is very much Walmart's strong suit. Back in the 70s and early 80s, they developed most of the modern computerized systems now used by other retailers. The discovery that they're sold out of one or two particular items doesn't really tell anything about how well-run a particular Walmart store is.
