If there's someone mumbling, he's probably having a conversation with himself, so it's not polite to interrupt...

The honking, it's mainly cab drivers. I still think Chicago and the suburbs are some of the easiest places to drive and more courteous considering the density of the metro area.

I guess being a "Senior Member" with 3,127 posts must give you a special feeling inside. Men in Paris will flirt with girls passing even when they're with their girlfriends; I've never experienced that in any other city. Why can't Chicago have specific traits as well? I hope you're not such a caustic jerk in real life; that would be a sad existence. Yes, I am a Senior member so I guess have "that special feeling inside". And I am only a caustic jerk when encountered by one. That too is a specific Chicago trait I guess.

The honking. I've lived in Los Angeles so know this a big city thing. But in LA it's about "get the hell out of my way or hurry the f up." But in Chicago, it's a different type of honking, and I can't figure it out. Any insights?

IDK what Chicago's rules of honking are, but here are mine and from my sn I'm sure you can figure out where I learned it from.

Green light rule... Lights been green longer than 3 seconds and your still sitting there digging away in your nose then you get the beep beep. If you sit there another second you get the beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeep.

You cut me off you get the beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep until you get the hell out of my way.

Exiting alleys, garages, and going around blind corners gets a beep beep beep until my front bumper is visable as I've had one dumb ass on a bike ram right into my fender for inching out over the sidewalk as he was riding on the sidewalk which is illegal and of course he said it was my fault.

Gridlocked traffic gets the laying on the horn as long as the light is green and the intersection is blocked.

Pedestrians jay walking or crossing on a red light get the quick beep beep beep beep beep beep beep until they stop crossing and I'm able to get through the intersection on my green light.

Lane driftage... You get the beep beep beep as I pass by you on whatever side I'm on.

For those that say things like, "you honk at me, I'm gonna jump out and kick your ass" I say go ahead and try it.
