I lived on a "not-so-safe" block of Logan Square... with another female roommate and never had a single issue. Everyone was always super nice and the streets seemed to shut down after dark... I live in Portage Park now and can honestly say it is too quiet and boring for me. There is always people out in Logan Square.. so if nothing else, it is good for people watching

As long as your gf has common sense and is always aware of her surroundings (which should be all the time) she will be fine. I know someone mentioned Lincoln Park in another response... and I don't know if you recall or were around a few years back...... woman were being attacked early in the morning while walking to the El. If there IS crime in Logan Square... it may be more robbery/theft related and much more "internal"....not many people mess with outsiders in fear of creating a stir. There is a large crowd of youngers living in Logan Square because of the cheap rent and up-and-coming atmosphere.

Default No improvement near Pulaski and Fullerton

For all the talk of gentrification it isn't happening in West Logan Square. My Grandparents owned their home at 3745 W Lyndale for 48 years from 1941-1989 right by Mozart school. I was born in 1982 on 2300 N Springfield Avenue and we lived on Harding and Wrightwood and also on Avers and Palmer and with my Grandfather after my Grandmother passed and before he sold in 1989. The area was going downhill then. The middle class Poles, Germans and to a lesser extent Irish and Italians were leaving in large numbers. A recent shooting on 3500 W Armitage should remind us that for the talk of a Logan Square rebirth big issues remain. The good news is Our Lady of Grace has survived. My Grandparents had 8 kids that graduated from there. Private schools struggle in these types of areas. We left for Elmwood Park in 1991 and then for Lake county in 1995. What does everybody think? We this area ever comeback and be a decent place again? I fear not!

Approximately half of Chicago neighborhoods have comparable or more violent crime than Bucktown. That being the case, why would you want to live in a City in which the larger part is violent?

No. It's not. Though it largely depends on where you live in Logan Square. East is better. Thought it's similar to Portage Park, so it's kind of a lateral move. It's all street-by-street. Just like where you are now.

Even though Portage Park is declining-overall it is still not as crime ridden as Logan Square on the whole.

From New York, visiting a friend and here to see The Black Keys perform. We spent New Years Eve in this neighborhood. Highlight of the night was a little Cuban bar 'Panchos'. Pancho is an incredible host and the patrons did not make us feel uncomfortable or out of place (in new York a white couple won't feel real comfortable in a Cuban club) he has a great resturant next door with exceptional food. We also had a good time at Logans. Both of these establishments were on California I believe. So far Chicago is a wonderful city and we are having a great time

Yes. He is quite proud of the Chicago baseball teams.
