OK Chicago, tell me what you think about our homegrown Fannie May chocolate shops. It is one of my favorites, and I am always shocked to see they haven't gone national or even regional. What is your opinion on their products?

Um, Fannie May took a husband a few years back. He whisked the old gal off to Ohio:
Harry London/Fannie May Chocolate Factory - Discover Ohio

They claim not to have changed the recipes but maybe they have changed the sourcing or even the water. They just aren't the same for me...

You mean Fannie May candies?

The only Fanny May that I know is a chick I picked up in England once...

Chocolate Covered Orange Peel, Carmarsh, Pink Ice, Fruit and Nut, Fannie May Dark Chocolate, and the names I cannot remember.

Unfortunately they downsized where I live, so many of candies I really love are not available.

I just remembered I have a thing of Fannie May fudge in the freezer from right before the whole buy out and move thing. Been buried back there forever it seems. Wonder if it's still good? I have to move in a few months so I'll have to do something with it.

Since I originate from Ohio, Dayton specifically, Esther Price maintains a big place in my heart. Ah, that good ol' shiny gold box.

However, even better than that is a small scale place called Bellbrook Chocolates. Unbelievable. I'll like chocolate regardless, though.

I think there is definitely something different about Fannie May since they came back. They taste a little bit different. I don't notice it so much with the Pixies, but I did with the Easter eggs. Also, with the cremes. Plus, they don't have some of the candies that they used to carry. It's still good, it's just different.

Their version of the Heath bar (toffee) is the BEST, and far better than the heath bar. I think the Pixies (turtles) are not as good as real Turtles. Their fruit gems (like Chuckles) are far better than Chuckles and really worth the money. Peppermint Ice still makes me gag!
