Hi there

I was wondering if someone could please tell me how much a train travel pass (weekly) would cost for the Central Chicago city area. I'm looking at a 10 mile radius from downtown. I'm a Brit and coming to Chicago next week.

Many thanks!

Well I did a bit of research myself and found this link.

http://www.transitchicago.com/fareoverview.aspx (broken link)

It says a 7 day pass would be $23 (CTA only) and $28 including CTA and PACE. Can anyone explain what "PACE" is?

Cheers!

I believe it's $23 for a "7 day" for CTA use only....$28 for CTA/PACE duel use
You can buy the bus cards at almost any currency exchange, Jewel, and I think CVS

PACE- is a bus service used for suburban commute

PACE is the suburban BUS service, marginally useful to a tourist, as few places are going to be added to your accessible radius. (maybe a shopping mall or two...)

If you want to go to Brookfield Zoo or Arlington Park Thoroughbred Racing you would be better off buying individual Metra surface rail tickets to those destinations. I'd post links but the recently overhauled their web sites and most thinks are broken. Hope it i fixed for 2016...

Thanks Chet,

I'll probably be staying in Oak Park so assume the CTA pass will be valid on nearby trains. (Guess I'll sort that out when I get there, but for now I just wanted to find out how much a weekly pass would cost - at least it's a lot cheaper than weekly passes here in London (works out about $40 a week here

London Rail is crazy expensive. I asked if there was a student discount and the guy laughed at me.

Pace buses do run through Oak Park, but if you're going to use the el to get into the city you probably won't need to use them.

In Oak Park you can probably get away with a CTA pass (CTA and Metra are separate entities and a weekly pass on one will not work on the other). If you decide to use the Metra, you can always just buy individual tickets. And weekend Metra passes are only $5.

CTA pass is valid on all CTA buses and the CTA El line -- Blue and Green lines actually go through Oak Park.

Oak Park is also served by Metra heavy rail -- it can be faster. You can get a ten ride pass to get to /from Oak Park for $20 Union Pacific / West (UP-W) Schedule
