I keep mine at 77. To me the temperature isn't nearly as important as the dehumidifying effect.

I can respect that. But for someone to say 70 is frigid seems ridiculous.

IMO, 70 with low humidity is pretty frigid, at least for a summer day. This from someone who likes cooler temperatures.

Not if it is 90 or more outside with high humidity. One almost has to keep it that low to get the humidity out. And it has been very humid this summer.

Two days ago, the thermometer hit 100 in downtown Boston, with humidity to match..just an awful day. Even now, as I type at 10PM in the East, it's still almost 80, and still humid. I'm setting my bedroom air conditioner at about 60, and I'm going to enjoy it.

I also concur about the difference between the 1st and 3rd floors of a building--easily a 10-degree difference, and possibly the difference between using a fan, and resorting to an air conditioner. Sometimes, the combination of closing a bedroom door, pulling all the shades, and turning on a couple of fans is just enough to cool off a room; fo the past week here in Boston, an air conditioner has been a necessity.

So. How many people have been able to refrain from using A/C the last two weeks?

On and off, depending largely on humidity. There comes a point when just fanning humid air around doesn't accomplish much.
