I'm not very familiar with them myself, I think it's more a case of having public school options besides the usual CPS system. The local public elementary by me is just a horrible, monstrous relic of an industrial age that will never return, so this is an interesting educational approach different than what I associate with CPS.

Looks like it got shot down. The city said their model was imperfect (as opposed to the standard CPS model!!) and that they were not shovel ready. The committee for the school is appealing the decision.

yeah, I made the calls and sent faxes & emails, but my kid isn't old enough to stand outside for a rally. I think Mell killed this with his too-little-too-late support.

I wrote a letter to Sen. Martinez yesterday and received an email from Avondale Montessori commitee to please send no further letters to the senators because she is already going to work on behalf of the school. They did recommend that we continue sending letters/emails to Lynn Kilkuszewski. Here's her info if you're interested.

You can share your thoughts with Lynn Klikuszewski (773-553-1530) at the Office of New Schools NOW and voice your support. Email your support statement to klikuszewski @ cps.k12.il.us or fax it to her at 773-553-1559.
