Thanks eveyone but i still need more info. i was wondering, what about the Up Town neighborhood? does anyone have any information on the poverty there? i heard that entire families are now frequently visiting soup kitchens and stuff like that. if anyone has any more information i would greatly appreciate it if they would post it here.

^^Perhaps you should contact Ald. Helen Schiller about that. She buses the homeless to the polling places.

You might try researching your questions at the Newberry Library or even City Hall.

d90. Uptown is a transitional neighborhood. I know plenty of yuppies living in condos in Uptown. There is also a large homeless population and plenty of SRO's. You've got a little of everything in uptown. Some blocks have gentrified.
If you are seeking areas with poverty, you will also find plenty of folks suffering on the west and south sides in various pockets.

The poster lives in Chicago and it looks like he is a student at CCC.

Census 2000 DP_234_tables for Chicago Community Areas
Scroll down in that link and go to the blue box, right click on that link and it should open an excel file showing any and every statistic from the 2000 census you could imagine for Chicago's neighborhoods.
It's outdated....but at least ballpark. Tab over and click "economic data". The far right of that spreadsheet shows poverty rates for individuals as well as families for each community area.
