420 East Ohio
Hey folks,
Been living in Naperville for a few years, but I work and go to school in the loop, and I am over the commute. I spend about 2-3 hours a day on or waiting for trains and busses, and I am just ready to move to the city.
Any experience with 420 East Ohio? It seems to be in my price range. Not exactly sure how I would feel about living that high up though, but I am willing to try.
I am looking into River North, Near North, Gold Coast, Streeterville area. I am looking for a 1 bedroom, and I can afford around 1750 or so.
Anyways, just thought I'd ask.
Thanks for any advice

Where the heck are going to / coming from that it takes that long to get trains and buses? Are you counting the ride on Pace to the Naperville station?
One can get from the Naperville Metra station to Loyola's North Michigan Ave campus in about and hour. The walk from Union Station to the Red Line and State and Jackson is probably the slowest part of the journey, as the BNSF expresses are awesome and even the CTA moves OK from Jackson to Chicago Ave...

I was counting there and back man. I probably spend 2-2 1/2 hours a day commuting there and back. Plus I'm counting the time that I sit in Union station at night waiting for the train to leave.
I get out class at 9PM I don't get home untill 11PM. I do this twice a day. The commute in the morning isn't bad, it's the ride home that is killing me.
Plus I would just like to experience what the city has to offer ya know?

Well that is very different.
If you want a short commute the place you cite is pretty close, but the value is questionable as that building is set up with pre-furnished units that they try to rent out for extended corporate use.
The "neighborhood feel" is going to suffer terribly too, as that place has nowhere near the nightspots as something in Lakeview or Lincoln Park would, though you would probably need to do more on your own to get furniture / join a gym and other stuff that is 'automatic' in place like this...

Thank you for the reply
I think Lincoln Park and Lakeview are a little more north than I want. But maybe I shouldn't be looking at corporate establishment type buildings.
I have been searching apartment sites, and they are giving me mainly high rises in these neighborhoods. The nicer ones I can't afford. Village Green seems to have a lot of buildings in my price range like the Fisher Building, 420 East Ohio, MDA Apartments etc.
I tried to look on Apartmentratings.com for some feedback but I mostly found really bitter people that were rating down buildings for really petty reasons (the air went out for a few hours yesterday, NEVER live here!!), or there were reviews that read like they were written by the management and probably were. So it just wasn't a good place to get good information.
So I thought I would try to ask here. Thanks for the info.

Jesus, $1,750 for a 1 bedroom? What a waste.

When you start to add up the money he'll save on his commute, plus the hours a day he won't spend commuting anymore, it starts to look like a pretty good deal.

Yeah all of the apartments I'm seeing in the River North, Near North, Gold Coast, Streeterville, Loop area all at least 1600 (some much much more) for a 1 bedroom. That includes some utilities on most of them, plus access to amenities like the gym, pool, gardens etc.
But yeah it's not cheap. What's ridiculous is what they charge you for a parking spot. 420 East Ohio wants $260 a month to park

Building and maintaining parking isn't free. I don't see that price as all that ridiculous.

It's 5 times what I pay for my own personal garage in Naperville. I guess that's the price you pay in the city.
