Hi,

Im moving to chicago and have secured a job out in Naperville...I want to live in the Humbolt area. Im having trouble trying to connect with someone on CL to open their offer in a shared apartment to me. I tell them Wire Transfers / proof of employment etc. For the transplants who went this route; what is a good way to go about this?

I need to share an apartment as I wont be able to afford my own place...just yet. Thanks!

The commute from Humboldt Park to Naperville is going to suck.

I have done similar moves. I found places that rented by the month and then took that time to search for a permanent living situation. Those type places are usually furnished, so if you have a bunch of furniture you will have to go back for it or put it in storage for a month.

I second that. You might want to consider Oak Park/Forest Park if you want to shorten that commute and still be close to the city. Not to mention Humboldt Park can be pretty rough.

As in high crime rate/gangs/ghetto rough. Being east of Kedzie Ave helps somewhat, but it's still not that good over there.

Traffic will suck both ways. The reverse commute factor will only minimally help.

are you looking to rent a room? if so, you are going to have a VERY tough time doing it from out of state. it's one thing for a landlord to do background, credit, and employment checks. it's another thing for the average tenant to do so. a lot of people renting rooms want to meet prospective roommates in person to see if they click.

most importantly, a lot of people don't want to deal w/ wire transfers, especially in craigslist transaction. there are just too many scams and scammers out there and even the site recommends only dealing w/ folks in person. you're going to have a tough time w/o coming out here and meeting folks and paying in person. when I was looking for a roommate, I never really bothered w/ folks from out-of-state and esp. not those from out of the country

Why don't you live in low income Aurora places? - Isn't that where minimum wage Naperville workers come from?

Yes, and middle-wage and high-wage earners also live in Aurora and work in Naperville.
