There was also another one on Lawrence and Troy.
There is/was a bunch on Lawrence from the lake to dupage... it's kinda hard to single one out...

As an enthusiastic patron of restaurants, and someone from a Greek family, I can break down some of the best gyros I have had: (I'll only list the best 2 so as not to list supbar efforts)
The Works Gyros - Glenview (On Golf Rd.)
The meat is not dry, which is something I have found with many gyros sandwiches. The tzatziki sauce is one of the creamiest (Yet least authentic) sauces. Simply put, it's a delicious sandwich. It's in a small shop in a strip mall, so I'm sure many of you have passed this place on quite the occasion.
Grecian Kitchen - Skokie
This place makes the best chicken, but their #2 most famous dish is the gyros sandwich. While the meat is a little more on the dry side, the tzatziki is probably one of the best I have tried at a fast food place. Order a gyros sandwich with a side of their potatoes, and you are a set man.
Honorable Mentions: Dengeo's in Skokie and Murph's Place on Montrose.
*******SUPER HONORABLE MENTION**********
Nick's Gyros - One location I know of is at Touhy + Harlem in Niles.
This is a place I have been dying to visit. They are one of the last places to make homemade gyros. I have heard from many people that this is the place to go to for gyros in the north Chicago area. If I ever try it, everyone here will be the first to know.

Thanks again everyone. DS found Nick's...by Taft...and LOVED it. Said it was the best gyro he ever ate. Future trips may have us go on the quest again. Unfortunately, we are Carolina bound in the morning....

I like Nick's, it's really good. I still stand by my previous choice.

My favorite place(I would say its a tie) would be both Hella's Gyros at Bryn Mawr and Broadway, and Central Gyros at Central and Belmont. I'm really wanting to try The Works in Glenview, and Nick's at Touhy and Harlem now(moreso Nick's, if their gyro meat really is homemade), after reading about both those places! Not to mention, I know I've passed by both Nick's and The Works countless times in the past, too....
