Hey everyone, im new to this site and looking for some feedback. I am in my mid twenties and very recently have decided to move to Chicago from the NYC area- yes I am a city rat.
I work in apperal now however not sure if this is an industry I want to say in for much longer. I would really like to explore marketing or advertising.
Would any of you have any insight on any of the following:

What is the apparel industry like in Chicago?

How much would an entry level positing pay in advertising or marketing?

If you were 26 and loved to upper west in nyc what part of Chicago would you live in?

The apparel industry? We have many fine sweat shops to labor in. Some of them even let you have bathroom breaks!

In all seriousness, I don't know much about Chicago's fashion/apparel industries... But I do know many people in advertising, and there are LOTS of adverstising/graphic design jobs in Chicago. Starting salary really depends on what you are doing. You could be a designer, copy writer, producer, project manager, account person, etc. Or you could end up with a media company, who buy the ad space but don't actually create commercials. Your starting salary could be all over the map depending on your skill set and the type of company you work for.

I have to agree with that. In particular, eastern Lincoln Park feels the most similar to the Upper West Side to me (of course there are many differences, but it's as close as you'll get outside of New York).

Thank you everyone for all your feedback, its really helpful! I've been trying to look up ad agencies and the areas that they are in but i am not having that much luck. Do you think i will need a car to get to work? also can anyone give me some names for the agencies in chicago.
