Amen to that. I guarentee Jesse, Al and Rev Wright are now involved (especially since there are TV cameras around).
When I was in school in the early 90's a friend of mine went at a Harlem Globetrotter. He has stilts that made him about 6'8, had an 8 inch afro and yes, painted his skin 'black'. It was hilarious and even black people were commending him on his costume. Not a single person expressed offense, disgust, etc.
Going as a white Harlem Globetrotter just wouldn't work.

The whole Native American mascot thing is silly as well. Usually, when there were protests to Chief at U of I, about 4 people would show up and scream "WE'RE OFFENDED!!!" While about 40,000 would support Chief.
If you're worried about offending a few people, all teams would have to do away with their human (and probably animal mascots for fear of offending PETA) mascots.
Seriously people, grow some thicker skin and quit looking for every opportunity to be offended by something, anything.

I'm offended when the term Native American is used to describe American Indians. Anyone born here is a native American. Note that the term Native American was invented by the Federal government not the Indians themselves, all of whom I've known had no beef with being called Indians and who often use their nation's name as their preferred identity---"I'm a Navajo, Chippewa, Stockbridge Indian, Oneida" and so forth.
Actually some resent being renamed again for the convenience of the Federal government and the East Indians and see it as evidence they're still relegated to the low spot on the.......totem pole.
Of course I don't run into Indian activists, just fellas in the trades.

I thought Indians were people from India. How do you differentiate from people of Indian descent born in the US. Aren't they Indian American. Too confusing.

I mean if I have white buddies who don't get it, that's fine, but if they started coming at me with "quit playing the race card, here we go again" and that type of rhetoric, I would not consider them friends.

You're being disingenuous. There are two kinds of Indians, American Indians and east Indians. We being Americans and inhabitants of the New World the Indians involved in our history and culture for the past 500 years are the American type.
But you know that.

Yes the real Indians are those descendants of India. I prefer to call them Native American, Indigenous, or by their tribal nation.

They are kids, they are joking. They aren't racist (which is the most important point in my opinion) I find this no more offensive than a balck person saying the N word.
