Yeah, it would help. Can't tell you about something if you don't ask us...

I think the problem with the program is that it is designed for someone who did not come from a business background in their undergrad. You really did not need any 'base' of a background in finance to succeed. On that note there was a lot of repitition of things that I already learned.

On the plus side you do get more diversity at Roosevelt then you would get at a Loyola or DePaul. I am a white guy who works in Finance for a company with a lot of other white guys working for it. It was nice going to class and being around people from diverse backgrounds (for a change of pace).
how is there career center? because the main thing i'm concerned with is landing a job after i get the MS.

Unfortunatly I can't help you out with that. I was already employed when I went to grad school so I never had to utilize the career center. I do believe they have one though.

Going to "Roosevelt" seems like a big risk,as its probably the worst school in the entire area.

I have my MS in Accounting myself. Your best option is probably Depaul if you are looking to stay in the city. I have friends there and at Loyola at the moment. Neither Northwestern nor UChicago have MSA programs, but do have great MBAs.

A MS Accounting/Finance will be much different than an MBA with a concentration in Accounting or Finance. Also, in my experience, many MSA students are coming straight out of undergrad to get enough hours to sit for the CPA exam.

Glad I wasn't the only one who thought that.

Aren't most evening MBA progams downtown in the loop? UC, NU, Loyola, Depaul, & NotreDame all have loop locations. UIC is pretty close to the loop too.

I definitly take exeption to this comment.

I do realize it is no University of Chicago but Roosevelt suits its prupose very well.

If you get a MBA or other advanced degree from a top tier institution (U of Chicago....Harvard.....Yale) it will make a difference when you apply for a job and choose a career path. Your Depaul's, Roosevelt's and Loyola's all have their pro's and con's and where you choose to go just dpeends more on what you are looking for in an institution.

I tend to agree. There are lots of very successful people that would have been less likely to achieve their goals had they skipped any MBA, but there are probably far more people that misunderstand the value of an MBA and its role in helping one achieve career goals.

I know dozens of people with MBAs from school like Roosevelt that are really no better off than had they not gotten that particular degree.

A much smaller number of people end up in similar situations after earning MBAs from schools a bit higher on the rankings, thus it makes sense to get into as good a school as possible. If you can't into the better school or cannot justify the cost it is probably smart to rethink things. If the reason you did not get in was due to poor GMAT scores it makes sense to study up and retake. Poor undergrad transcripts -- take upper level courses as a non-degree student in mathematics, finance or possiblely contracts / business law. Work experience is not up to snuff? Then get the kinds of experience required.

There are thousands of people that put a ton of effort into finding the graduate business education that is best suited to putting them where they need to be in order to achieve their goals. The differences between ANY program boil down to competitive advantage. As the level of competition for jobs has never been higher the amount of investigation one does ought to be ramped up.
