To pile on, my sister and brother-in-law moved to Rockford after they both graduated from law school. They thought it was a nice little city to get started in their careers. My brother-in-law worked at a private firm and my sister worked for the state's attorney. After a couple years in Rockford they had their first child. It was around this time that they started looking at the schools, the overall environment and the criminals that my sister was sending to jail (and running into at the grocery store a year later) and realized that they had been wearing rose-colored glasses. They had imagined that Rockford was this quaint small city outside of the Chicago suburbs, but in reality it is its own separate beast. The city has major issues with drugs, crime and its overall economy.

I would avoid it if you can.

That's a massive amount of bike riding. Why not just go to the Culver's in Downers Grove and the Red Robin in Warrenville. Those are a lot closer then the locations you listed.

First off, there is a Culver's 10 minutes away from my house. Maybe there aren't any in the city, but there are tons here in the suburbs.

Secondly, Rockford is a pleasant little town, but if I was looking for a place to go on a little weekend get away, it wouldn't be Rockford. I mean if I had to go to Rockford for something I would be pleased, but I would choose maybe Lake Geneva or SW Michigan for a weekend vacation.
