This is my first post here. I'm a single female in my 30's. I currently live in Schaumburg and I'm thinking of relocating to Chicago for a more active/fun lifestyle.

I've lived and work in Schaumburg for several years and even though I love the peace and quiet, I don't think it fits my lifestyle. I enjoy an active lifestyle, love playing tennis, traveling around the world and meeting new people. Though I'm not into the club scene, nightclubs are nice once in a while.

I wonder if moving to Chicago would be worth it. Would it improve my chances of meeting people with similar interests within in my age group?

Is moving to Chicago a good idea? Any suggestions/comments/tips would be greatly appreciated.

The benefits of the move really depend on the neighborhoods. I don't think it would behoove you much to more to an ultra hip early 20s neighborhood or a sleepy bungalow belt neighborhood but if you find an area that shadows your interests I do think you'll have a greater quality of life in the city.

I would think that Lincoln Square or Edgewater/Andersonville would be great areas for a active 30s social scene. The latter would be particularly nice since you have easy lakefront access for sports and recreation.

The other thing to think about would be the commute. Commuting to Schaumburg from the city every day for work would be a bear.

Maybe it would be simpler to just go into the city on the weekends and get a hotel room or something.

Don't think twice - move. The only reason I would step my foot in Schaumburg is a trip to IKEA once a year. And when I visit - I look around the un-walkable mega mall restaurant chain sterile office park suburbia landscape.. and I am glad not to see it again for another year!

Id agree with the other poster about commute time. It could be a bear from chicago. I would either line up a new job in chicago or figure out some other way to do it(i.e. is it possible to take mass transit to you job???)

Our situation is we live near Schaumburg and work downtown. Do not commute unless you want to put yourself through that!!!! I don't see anything affordable (or it is is, safe) in Chicago. Just trying to warn you that someone who commutes that distance typically goes to bed at 8:30pm and gets up at 5:30am, so really that's no life anyway. Hope that helps somewhat. It's up to you, of course.
