Ok, I'll give up the dishwasher and A/C. I can make due without. Parking I can either pay for or struggle with street parking. Does anyone live or know where there are some good buildings with in unit laundary? I've gone through the laudrymat or shared laundary facilities and it's always a headache.

^^Have you tried just adding an "in unit laundry" caveat into a craigslist search. I saw a few on my hunt for a 3 bedroom last night.

You can always do drop-off service. The place I use is 70 cents a pound. That probably shouldn't come to more than $25/mo for a single male (presuming that's what you are). You'll probably pay more than that in rent for the privilege of having in-unit W/D.

That's a good, idea! Here in San Diego it is not a common service.

Out of curiosity, do you really need a car? Or is the idea of not having one just too weird for you since your from Cali?

You seem to want to live in areas that are known for being good places to live without a car.

I don't need a car, but my wife who will teach elementary school and attend Loyola does not know how her commute might be. I would love to get rid of my car but I might not be able to.

You may need the car for the elementary school(depending on how safe/far away) the school will be, but you probably don't need the car for Loyola.

It's rough, but you can find it. Easier in Lakeview than the others. Wrigleyville has little amenities unless you're rich. Everything's small. Lincoln Park same way.

Though in ALL of those neighborhoods, expect to pay at least an additional $150 a month for parking as NO ONE includes parking unless you're in a premium price bracket and there is NO street parking. If they tell you there is, they are lying! You might find a spot, but you'll get ticketed over and over and have to move the car every day. Parking in that area is just not available. You need a designated spot and that is pricey.

Like the others have said, yeah, if you have money, you're good.

And in unit laundry is hard to find, but not impossible. Best bets on that are large high rise buildings.

When you're ready to buy, you're much more likely to find all of those things, too.
