I'm going to be on Arlington between Halsted and Clark. Am I going to have a big problem when it comes to street parking? I work in the suburbs and probably wont be able to make it home until 7:30-8. I was going to test it out for a month or so, before looking for a parking space, however, my search for a parking space hasn't turned up much in that area. Thanks!

Good Luck. Parking in Lakeview is completely awful (close to the lake) and Lincoln Park is ten times worse. Unless you are completely lucky everyday, you will have to spend a half-hour to an hour or so trying to find a space close to you.

Also, do you have a zone permit already? A lot of Lincoln Park is zoned and you will need to get the zone sticker and/or city sticker for your area if your street is zoned (or adjoining streets are zoned).

I would just suck it up and pay for parking. I know it is expensive but it's a lot less hassle then circling the block every single day after work, praying that there is an open space.

Yea, I was thinking the same thing, maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, but I can't seem to find any ad's for parking. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You picked the wrong neighborhood to commute to the suburbs from.

Good luck in your search.

This is pretty much true. Lincoln Park is a great neighborhood, but it has mediocre (at best) access to expressways other than LSD, was built and is still mostly configured for a non-car lifestyle, has limited parking in the original parts of the neighborhood (west of Sheffield you start to see more auto influence, but then again it loses a lot of its charm as it approaches Clyborn and is pretty much uncharming west of that). In the area you describe, there is very limited parking, and adding much parking would basically destroy the fabric of the neighborhood either directly by destroying existing structures or indirectly by enabling those who desire a driving lifestyle to supplant those who desire a pedestrian lifestyle. Unfortunately, those two lifestyles are practically incompatible.

Cars and neighborhoods built in the 1800s aren't very compatible - trying to do too much to accomodate cars in them tends to destroy the original structure and charm of such neighborhoods, and newer neighborhoods build to accomodate cars usually lack the density to have the sort of dense, urban livability that attracts people to places like Lincoln Park. Or, like the South Loop south of Roosevelt, are mostly high-rise neighborhoods structured so that major retail still requires a long walk, a bus ride, or (most often) a car.

Anyway, you're likely to see more ads for parking in the area around the New Year when there some movement in and out by students due to the semester change.

Try the Reader and other local free papers that are placed in Coffee shops and stores in the area.

I have a relative who lives on that same street. The parking is so bad that she parks her car on the street next to her job site, over a mile from her apartment.
