How is the area around independence Park....I will be veiwing apartments near here and would like to know about the overall safety level of living near this park. Irving park seems good for the price and prox to transportation options.

I live in the Independence Park neighborhood (which, by the way, is near the Irvng Park Metra and Blue Line stops -- the actual park itself is literally one block away). We have our usual urban problems with burglaries, the occasional robbery (usually strong-arm, meaning no weapon involved), occasional car theft -- nothing any different from any other safe and stable North Side neighborhood. We have very few "serious" crime incidents around here. It's a great neighborhood for walking around in; there are some truly lovely homes with well-manicured lawns on nice wide lots. The balance of safety, affordability, transportation options and easy access to nightlife neighborhoods is exactly why I chose this neighborhood. If those are the things you're looking for, and you're not the kind of person who has to be right in the middle of all the action, I highly recommend this neighborhood.
