how safe is walking from clinton station to Union Station at night 11PM
I need to catch a bus which starts at 12 AM at union station. And I will be in Ohare airport by 9:30 PM. Planning to take the CTA Blue Line get down at clinton station and walk to Union station.
just concerned about the walking part...is it safe at night 10 PM?

Amtrak has Federal Railroad Police in the area, and there are pretty steady flow of commuters into Union Station itself so it is not exactly a ghost town...

You'll be fine ..sometimes there are a few scruffy characters around, but they're harmless ( don't even panhandle..) , plus as stated before , lots of taxis and people around Union Station ..you're really only about 2 blocks south ..

And odds are you won't be the only one taking that route. There will probably be another person or two coming from the airport and walking alongside you.

The walking from Clinton station to Union Station is NOT dangerous at all. It's the blue line train ride that's more dangerous. Before I was laid off, I worked at Madison & Clinton (across from Union and Ogilvie Stations) on 3rd shift and took my lunch breaks at 2 and 3 in the morning. There is nothing going on out there but people going home or coming to work like me (i started at 10pm).
As for the Blue Line ride....please be careful. One of my friends was robbed at gun point ON the train. She was sitting on the very first train because she thought it would be safe but 3 people robbed her and slapped her twice. Then over the years, sexual assaults were reported on the blue line....so be safe.

Though to be fair, the ride from O'Hare to the Loop is much safer than the leg of the Blue Line that goes west to Forest Park. Personally, I'd probably get off at Jackson (at Federal Plaza) and try to catch a cab or bus going west to Union Station. The trains really empty out after Jackson at that time of day. That part of the Loop is dead at night, but not nearly as dead as the area around the Clinton stop.

Easy. I do it regularly as that's when I get off work. It's sparse, so be on alert for randoms, but it's safe and very quick.
