Moving to Greektown area - Lake Street Lofts - is this area OK
I'm starting a new job next month that is located on West Monroe Street, and I'm moving into the Lake Street Lofts (well it isn't finalized quite yet). I have a few question.
Lake Street Lofts are located at 910 West Lake Street , just west of 90/94 and just north of 290 (I'm going to visit this weekend and finalize things if I like the exact area). What is that area like. I have checked out Apartment ratings.com and the rating for these apartments is very high - but there isn't much about the neighborhood.
Mapquest indicates that it is less then 2 miles from work to home, but of course I'm crossing 90/94, so I will need to drive - or is public transportation good in the area.
Any info you can give me on the neighborhood would be greatly appreciated

You'll be near the heart of greektown. Tons of great restaurants and nightlife. You're either a short walk or a quick bus ride to the Grand stop on the blue line, which would take you to Monroe and Dearborn. I can't say I spend a ton of time down there, but its a very nice area.

Near Greektown and Fulton market, lots of trendy restaurants are popping up. The whole area is full of new construction mid-rise condos and loft conversions. If you have a car, you'll probably need off street parking. Lots of bus lines and close to the el, so you could probably live without a car. Don't even think about driving to work. Crime should be fairly low around there also.

Driving to work is an excellent idea if you enjoy paying $300/mo to park downtown and engaging in hand-to-hand combat for a parking space when you get home (or alternately, paying another $200/mo for off-street parking in your neighborhood). The Washington/Madison Express bus (Route X20) stops at Halsted and Washington inbound, and at Halsted and Randolph outbound, which is a three and two block walk respectively from your address. It will drop you off at any stop along Washington, which is two blocks north of Monroe.
