So one of the people from my high school is going to be attending IIT and we talked about possible getting a apartment somewhere between or schools that would have no more than a 35 minute commute time. I want it to be relatively safe. I mean if I get off the bus at 10:30 I want to be able to walk 2 blocks to my house without worrying on a daily basis of getting mugged or what not. I looked at bridge port but it was pretty mixed. Lincoln park is always a good choice but finding a place near one of the more south red line stops is hard to find at an affordable price. We would probably just get a medium sized studio and make it similar to a dorm room just have the added conveniences of bathroom and a kitchen.

Thanks

What didn't you like about Bridgeport? "Pretty mixed" is a bit vague.

I should ad that I personally have never been to Bridgeport but from what I read on here. I don't live close enough to visit on a regular bases. I should ad that I am white and I believe he is korean. Our budget would probably be 700 for a studio.

So I am still confused by why Bridgeport won't work for you. The 35th st. bus takes you right to IIT and the '8' Halsted bus goes up to UIC. In addition, $700 can get you a 2 bedroom in Bridgeport. South Loop could be a bit more expensive.

Safe compared to what? I don't feel threatened at all living here. If you need some reassurance, check CLEARmap and do a search of Bridgeport. You'll see that the most common occurance is car break ins, stealing from garages (which is easy because they're in the back and detached) and occasionally, someone may break in while you're not around. As for the break-in's, they tend to be more frequent around Morgan and Lituanica, but even those aren't TOO frequent.

I should say mugging and not robbery as you stated that above.

There is a CPD blue light at 32nd and Morgan. From what the police have told me, there still is some Latin King presence around there. If you were to live in that area, I would advise being careful when walking around late at night. It isn't all doom and gloom over there, though. Lots of young artists and hippie type kids are moving into the places west of halsted. From what I've seen, rent is cheaper west of halsted.

As far as muggings go, I just checked clearmap and it looks like there were only 2 in the month of dec. and 1 in nov. all of them happened late at night (12:30A, 2A). So, if you're out walking around by yourself, be aware of surroundings.
