Not laughed out so to speak. Sent into arbitration. Even when I was arguing the complaint I filed myself without a lawyer, the judge granted in favor of the plaintiff and sent it into mandatory arbitration. At least now I found a lawyer the next day, and I have the right to reject the award. It's guaranteed. I'm not looking for sympathy or understanding, maybe you were looking at it wrong.
What you are looking at is a condensed version. It's a 16 page complaint. Any spelling error and such are my fault.
Sorry about that. At that hour, I didn't expect too many visitor. As for my lawyer, he's a nice guy and was willing to take the case based on the facts only even after I had my year in court. The only thing the judge wouldn;t give him was a transfer to Federal Court. I have no complaints with him.
I'm sorry, Pizza. Police that are criminals and as sholes are the law these days, not the exception. And god knows, Chicago has a history of extremely corrupt government officials.
Thanks, I'm tired of complaining, it's time to get this thing behind me and move on. Of course getting behind me is difficult for now so I keep on complaining. It wouldn't have been so bad for me had the City protected my car while I was in custody. As it turned out they destroyed it while I was being held on this warrant.
When I was finally released, I no longer had a car and could not go back to work. I had just bought the car and made one payment. The 2nd payment came due while in Cook County. Don't get me wrong, I tried to get a new car to start working but the only car I could afford by then was a $395.00 car with tons of issues.
Like the 2nd day after I went back to work at the same place, the same thing nearly happened again. The only reason it didn't was because the cop chose to not take me in to do his job.
The car only lasted a few months before the tranny went down, and I was out of work without any formal job references or current skills to get back into an office.
Would really like to get this thing finished for the new year. A new year/new start. I'm not planning on sticking around once I have the cash in hand. Of course the award may only be enough to get a new car and I'll have no choice but to stay.
I'm bored so I'm going to continue:
My lawyer has discussed numbers with me, but he did mention a similar case, and that her award was appealed, so instead of 500K she only got 350K.
According to the complaint, I'm looking at a minimum of in excess 210K+cost. The breakdown is like this. 2 claims false arrest for City and Police. 3 claims false imprisonment for City, Police, and Sheriff. 2 claims contempt of court for Sheriff and Cook County. That's 7 claims against 4 defendants at an in excess $30,000+costs each.
The lawyer only gets 33%+costs. 2 years of costs could be any amount, but I guess it's going to be close to $300.00 an hour. If he put in an hour a week for 104 weeks, that's $31,200.00 + $70,000 for his 33%. In excess of course.
Well, the emotional distress is starting to show it's ugly head. I'm outta here. It'd depressing.
A Chicago Police officer, did all that to you, for a suspended license.............I highly doubt that, you must have a mouth, or a chip on your shoulder.
Suspended License, I m correct right...........and you went to jail..............
I dont think so..................Not even a corrupt ******* cop, would do all that paperwork, plus the Sheriff's got involved, you actually went to the basement Division Five, at 26th and Cal, got a tan jumpsuit with DOC written on it, for an outstanding traffic warrant,,,,,,,,,,,,,No F N way..........Why dont you be honest and tell the whole story................
Why would I lie? I would only have to continue living it. Whay is it so hard to believe that the police would do something so drastic and stupid? I don't expect people to care, or even read it. It was more for my own peace of mind to post it.
But thanks for the response.
Have a great day!
William

Reason: problem has been resolved
With the state of the state's budget crisis I had thought about that. So far the only things exempt from non payment are welfare, and bond issues. It looked like only state employees wont be getting paid.
It sounds like you've been there. They really need to take care of the inmates and detainees better. Yes the jumpsuit, the trays, the verbal attacks by the sheriff deputies, the whole nine yards. I even had to clean up those holding tanks where you sit and wait for court at $1.00 a day.
You need to change that to, the City, Police, County and Sheriff did that TO me, not FOR me. All this for a warrant FOR SOMEONE ELSE. The cops made it appear that my fingerprints matched that of the other person. (imagine line 72-E of complaint inserted here).
Did I mention I was released by the judge on an I-Bond and because of the police paper work, I landed in jail? No of course not.
Listen dude, even the white CCDOC ID card had my picture and the other person's information. These ID's are printed on a computer. The only way my picture can be on an ID with someone else information is if they ignored all the information I provided to the sheriff during processing.
Why would the sheriff do that TO me? They had an order from the court that was made based on the false information provided by the police.
Not to mention I had the honor of changing someone's diaper. Not just anyone, a handicapped man who was missing 35-40% of his brain. Think large crater, and maybe you can have the same nightmares I've had. Not to mention that the police car they used. It was not a standard police car. The back seat had been modified with a sheet of paneling. with caged windows and divider. It was basically a kennel cage. I really think it was a K-9 car, although I can't remember smell dog. If I had a picture which I fought fiercely to get, I would post it for you.
The only explanation I can give is that he thought he could get away with it. What they didn't expect was that long before they pulled this warrant thing, my rights were already violated by being transported in a cage.
It's possible my check will come from the lawyer anyways, and the law firm gets paid by the City, County, Police and Sheriff. I've been waiting 3 long but fast years.
Also the city just had a gun turn in program and the idea hit me, how many of those guns get used to cover up police shootings of innocent people? I wouldn't put it beyond their ability to do so. I'm sure they set aside a percentage for just in case circumstances.
The entire point of this thread is to complain about the City Of Chicago. Do yourself a favor and move to the suburbs instead. This place is a gutter. I could go on and on on how much I am offended by the City of Chicago and the Chicago Police. The Sheriff I can;t let slide either. He was given several orders by the court. He chose to follow some and ignore other. That's why he a party to the complaint, and that's why he lost his motions to dismiss.
Moving on to more complaints about Chicago.

Reason: problem resolved
-the winter is just a little too cold and too long (this one's the deal-breaker).
-the topography and landscape aren't that interesting to me.
-the city is a bit too spread out to be a good walking city or even to get to the el easily from many parts, but it's compact enough thatdriving/parking can be a real pain. i'm no car-lover, so until chicago decides to manhattanize outside the downtown area (go outer loop!) i'm heading to the real thing.
-i never quite felt that i "fit in" here. i'm not sure what it is, but culturally for a large city it seems pretty family-oriented and people seem more stand-offish than they should be toward outsiders. maybe it's the catholic influence, or that many in the city come from the chicagoland area? at the music venues or bars that i go to, the ratio of men to women is about 2:1. a female friend from chicago has told me she thinks this is due to a misogonystic culture in chicago. whatever it is it's not good for getting dates if you're a guy unless you're into the dance clubs (i'm not). i could also care less about sports, which as a guy makes me a weirdo in the eyes of many chicagoans. and these sports bar/irish pub places? gimme a break.
-i grew up out east where you can't leave one urban area without coming upon another, and it kind of depresses me to think how isolated the city is once you get past the suburbs. "urbs in corno fieldo," says i.
-the chicago park district needs to read up on olmstead (or at least take a good look at jackson park and take notes). a grassy field surrounded by a ring of neatly lined trees does *not* a good park make. neither does putting benches on the outer edge of the park that face *outward*, toward the street. wtf is that all about?!?
there are also plenty of things to like about chicago, and it's definitely a better city than many that are out there. but i know there are some other cities that are better for me.
Chicago can be very bad in many ways, but it's not the worst.
Winter, I don't mind. Living in a climate where snow is a novelty(not to mention something most locals can't handle and it results in most of the traffic deaths in winter), Atlanta doesn't look all that nice. I actually love snow. The land is nice and clean when it snows.
I'm not surprised about the topography in Chicago. This is the Midwest and most of the Midwest is relatively flat. It's good for cyclists.
Spread out? You haven't been to Atlanta. Atlanta is the posterchild for spread out and bad for walking.
As for fitting in, I feel the same way about Atlanta. Do you think we should switch cities? lol!!
I read your post and some of the things I see, I can understand why you are not fitting in as far as Chicago is concerned. Chicago isn't for everyone. I just personally wouldn't bash Chicago myself because I find it more culturally rich than Atlanta. Come to Atlanta and you'll find out why.
Chicago has bad in many ways, but it has its good points.
The Lake front is nice with the beaches as long as there are no eccoli bacteria warnings. The lake has also been approved to receive more ammonia dumping from BP. You'll need more than sunblock
The Taste Of Chicago, dubbed as the Worlds Largest Food Festival traditionally held the week of the 4th of July is cool with free concerts, live music and a complete banquet of food from Chicago area eatery, as long as you don't get salmonella poisoning from soiled food. There were a total of 678 cases of salmonella reported. Not bad out of 6 millions visitors.
St. Patrick's Day Parade is still very popular, just expect to be around 10,000+ drunks at 9 in the morning.
The CTA is will get you anywhere in the city relatively easy, just beware of con artists and pick pockets. Not to mention street beggars.
Taxes are huge and the City Government can't seem to get enough. There seems to be taxes on everything. Entertainment Tax, fast food tax, use tax, and one of the country's highest sales taxes.
And if you came here looking for Marshall Fields, a century old staple founded in Chicago, fugitaboutit! It's outta here, and you'll have to settle for the New York Satandard. Macy's.
I can;t say enough how much you can expect to be see around the Loop. Chicago, Illinois.
