I suspected it was because of Detroits demise. And yes I was talking about the yuppie neighborhoods. It just kind of makes non michigan people feel left out

I have lived in Lakeview for 5 years, and I grew up on the southwest side of Chicago. But I'm probably more of an exception. Most people I grew up with still live down there.

Yes, lots of ex-Michiganders in Chicago. I see them every day out here in the suburbs, too. The sad thing is that MI's economy is so bad that many moved here because its close to home, and the economy is better (if you can believe that). I work with a guy from MI, but most come from other states at my place of employment. I work with A LOT of ex-Mississippians, oddly enough.

Smartest high school kids from any region migrate to "best" college that offers admission
And top college grads migrate to wherever are most lucrative career opportunities

Suspect top 10% of class from U-IL, U-MI and Carnegie-Mellon Engineering has been migrating to SiliconValley for past 25yrs (google's Page, Netscape's Andreessen, etc), never to return to Midwest

And in Manhattan, see lots of smart kids originally from Winnetka or Bloomfield Hills or many other less prominent Midwest suburbs who fled to Harvard or Wharton for college; entered NYC investment banks upon graduating, never to return to Midwest

There number of immigrants from other Latin American countries outside Mexico are quite small. Even Puerto Rican immigration has slowed quite a bit from a previous era.

The other part of Europe are almost all eastern Europe: Ukraine, Russia, Albania, Serbia mostly, often found in neighborhoods with a lot of Polish.

Outside Uptown, Rogers Park/West Rogers Park, Edgewater, and Albany Park, most of the immigration in north side neighbohoods come from Poland and Mexico.

Illinois and Chicagoland as a whole lack hispanic diversity. Out of around 2 million hispanics in Illinois, near 1.6 million are Mexican and 175,000 are Puerto Rican.

Interesting. He's probably the only one in the area, too.

Yeah that was pretty much what i was going for. The north side is pretty diverse. not just by race but by nationalities, religions ect. Now the totally gentrified parts...different story
