I found a thread like this for a different city and thought I would give it a try here since I am considering making the move to Chicago. From my visits I am completely in love with the city and don't see a reason not to move there. So, I dare you to give me a few reasons.
p.s. I am from Minnesota, the cold weather won't scare me away

I would say from reading the Chicago threads in CD Forums that the major reasons to not live in the City of Chicago are city taxes, limited space for vehicle parking, difficulty in renting covered parking for your car - if you do not own - and some areas that are underserved by city transportation.

If you live in a condo with covered parking and you either have good transportation or you can walk to work/play you have no issues except City taxes that are said to be the highest in the nation. The State Income tax is still a flat 3%, and I pay 1% grocery tax.

As far as I can determine from reading these threads, the IL real estate taxes are not much different than Iowa or Wisconsin. A side issue could possibly be employment - if you are not have a job when you move.

Chicago members usually have great advice for new residents.

Right now I'd say don't move here if you don't have a job lined up... or else a lot of savings to live on in lieu of income.

Don't move here if you can't imagine walking and taking public transit.

This is a good point, I came from FL where you drove everywhere and public transportation was pretty much non-existent so this took some getting used to. Especially in the winter!

Don't move here if you are the sort of person who refuses to wear a hat or you'll often be cold.
