Looking for a motel along where the dan ryan and eisenhower freeways meet. Somewhere near the united center or the university of illinois. Just motel 8 or something along that line for an overnight stay. I seem to recall some on s halstead maybe in the less than $50 range. Also are these still safe? Thanks.

Unfortunately, the types of hotels you're looking for don't exist in that area. It's only about a mile from the Loop from the United Center/UIC areas, so you're pretty much relegated to the downtown hotels if you want to be close, which can be pricey ("cheap" means finding something for less than $150-$200 per night). You would need to go to the suburbs to find the less expensive chain hotels.

This should be qualified - going from downtown to the UC is perfectly fine and filled with expensive condos. Be at your own risk when you go west of the UC, though.
