Ba Le on Broadway and Argyle has excellent fresh bread. They make Vietnamese style bagette a few times a day so they are always warm and fresh.

5018 N Broadway St, Chicago, IL‎ - (773) 561-4424‎

The Swedish Bakery on Clark and Balmoral also has tons of goodies but they swing more in the direction of sweets than fresh breads. Great for Mallorca sweet breads and danishes though.

There's also the pananderia on Clark up by Hollywood or so -- right where Clark and Ashland intersect.

The brunch restaurant M. Henry has a take-out counter that sells fresh bread. It's on Clark near the intersection with Ashland.

(side question)

Does anyone know of a good bakery anywhere in the city, Chicagoland in general or NWI that sells a good apple bread? I'm willing to travel upwards of an hour for this. To be honest, if someone said "Yes! I know of a great bakery just over the border in Wisconsin who sells an AWESOME apple bread...", I'd probably willing to extend my range and go there...
