Hello,
I'm looking at buying a place in this area and wonder what the crime is like. My wife and I rent in Lincoln Square right now. By the research I've done so far, it looks like it's just a hair sketchier over there. I'd really like to hear from some people that have actually lived in the area before though.

Thanks!

Is the typical crime breaking into garages and cars, or shootings and muggings?

There's typical crime.

There's a few shootings here and there because of gangs.

But I wouldn't worry really.

And Muggings can happen anywhere.
I don't think there's more muggings there then over at Lincoln Square.

Unfortunately, there were two shootings around there last Saturday alone.

"The shootings began about 10:45 p.m. Saturday in the Northwest Side's Albany Park neighborhood, when a 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were shot in the 4100 block of North Kimball Avenue, police said."

"At 1:55 a.m., a 20-year-old man was on his way to a liquor store when a person fired shots from a passing vehicle in the 3400 block of West Irving Park Road, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the right thigh and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in stable condition."

A little sketchier than Lincoln Square, yes. Imagine something in between Lincoln Square and Albany Park and you get the picture. Nice Peruvian restaurant right near that corner though. Decent pub right across the street from it too.

I wonder why you'd want to go from some place like Lincoln Square to Irving Park.

I live at Kedzie and Wilson and pass that intersection you refer to all of the time.
