Default Ranch Triangle Neighborhood Safety?

Anyone know how safe this area is? Specifically, I am looking at an apartment on dayton st. between armitage and clybourn. Anyone familiar with this area? I am from out of town and my wife and I are in our late 20s and looking for a safe place.

Don't let the wife walk around the North/Clybourn stop on the Red Line alone really late at night.

Closer to Armitage is better. I used to live in that area, and it is one of the toniest parts of the city. But it sort of falls appart as you get closer to North Avenue. The Marshall Field homes are on Sedgewick just south of North Avenue, and you need to be aware of them. Further south is Cabrini. And there are a few other low-income subsidized buildings near North Avenue, but they are further east. Dayton is quite nice, if you can stomach the tacky new-construction mansions that people built over teardowns.
