How safe is Englewood?? (Chicago, Chatham: movies, living, moving)

New plantings? Those trees have been there at least 5 years. Those trees are at least 30 feet high. You can see the sidewalk buckling from the roots of one of the trees...

Don't go ever go to Englewood, the "people" there are very, VERY dangerous and unpredictable. They are ages behind many western countries, everybody runs around naked with leopord skin wrapped around their waist, and many still practice the hunter-gatherer way of life. Meth use is widespread and often abused by men, women and children outside in public. They also openly and unforgivenly shoot AK's and bow n arrows at any outsider that dares steps in. I remember once they burned down two police stations and danced around the flames chanting and sacrificing cats and dogs. It is one of the few places in the world where cannabilism is still practiced and (child) polygimy is completely legal. They mostly sleep in the sewers by day, except for those who are out selling crack to children, and come out mostly only at night. Oh, and they can only survive by drinking the blood of virgins.

MOVING TO CHICAGO...BUT WORKING IN NORTHWEST SUPBERBS

I am no stranger to Chicago all my family lives their but predominantly on the southside, I usually come about 5-6 times a year and party with friends from college or visit fam. However the area in which my territory will be consist of Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Des Plaines, and Northbrook but I do not want to live too far from the city or be isolated to only suburban life. Does anyone have any suggestions on some areas that will not be too long of a commute, but very close or even in the city, I'm black 27 and don't want to live around a bad neighborhood but I do want to be around a mixture of people and also some nice eye candy. Any help would be appreciated.

Portage Park and Jefferson Park would be great for you. You have immediate transportation to everywhere. The Metra goes out to the NW burbs and into the loop. The blue line AND Jeff Park Bust Terminal are right there as well. Rent is really reasonable, crime is low, and you are nice and close to your work destinations.

Also, if you were looking for something OUTSIDE of Chicago, Skokie or Park Ridge would work as they are supported by CTA buses.

Anyone have any thoughts on Avondale? I know it used to be a polish neighborhood, but now is mostly hispanic.

Suprised to see this thread pop up again, but for anyone who might be interested in Englewood, there is a terrific little book: Chicago's Englewood Neighborhood, at the junction, by Roberts and Stamz. Put's the whole "Englewood problem" into context, and for me at least, offers hope of a meaningful revival.

It's been awhile since I lived on the South Side of Chicago, but from what I can remember Englewood was pretty bad. Drove through not long ago and seems to have gotten worse.
