And you sound like you have the IQ of a turnip. But you never know, distant impressions can be deceiving.
But I'm guessing not in this case.

Which makes Englewood (population: 40k, btw) safer, somehow?
Wyoming is pretty safe as a state (although it's no ND), but again: 55 times higher. At the rate they were killing people in Englewood last year, one in a thousand people living there wound up dead. Live there and while you probably won't be killed, you'll know a bunch of people who will.

If by "sheltered life" you mean staying away from places that have a HIGH concentration of:
(1) Drug dealers
(2) Gang bangers
(3) Random drive by shootings
(4) Hookers
(5) Schools full of punks beating the crap out of (and killing) each other on a daily basis.
(6) Scumbag losers loitering all over the place drunk and high.
Yeah, I can live without Chicago.
I do like "Chicago Hot Dogs" though.

Englewood and West Englewood are indeed, troubled neighborhoods. That's what happens when communities become "hopeless", when children are denied both opportunity and role models. The churches are doing their best to respond to the needs of these people, but "finding God" is not much help to the starving. . . the situations in places like this did not arise independent from the society that created them. . . . it is the society that values wealth over education, fame over consience and "taking care of myself" over taking care of our local, national and international communities that foster the despair of those who can envision no other way to live. . . DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

If anything, I'd put up with #4 and #6 just to be able to experience the Chicago dog. God bless Vienna beef.

I have to agree, Im not a native to Chicago, but I've lived with family on 75th and Eggleston on the edge of Englewood and Auburn/Gresham.... Jennifer Hudson's mom and Brother were shot and killed not too far from where we used to live.... However, that is not uncommon in that area. Hearing gunfire frequently is not uncommon either... I wouldnt recommend Englewood to anybody, especially someone thats not from there... Have you thought about checking out some of Chicago's southside suburbs particularly anywhere close to the Metra????

Don't do that, noone is trying to keep people from every visiting or moving to the city. Its just that crime in certain parts is out of control and alot worse than many places in the US, but dont avoid Chicago all together. Although I've lived in plenty of bad neighborhoods in Chicago, I have to say that there are parts of town Ive been to that were fairly safe and I did not have to worry too much about crime, even at night. Particularly the North side near Loyola University off Granville is where I used to stay at sometimes and when I stayed there with friends, I never felt threatened at all...
