You make it seem like it's a world away. 53rd & Halstead is just a wee bit North of Englewood. As in, you could probably jog from there down past Garfield in minutes.

You can even jog from where Daley's family resides in Bridgeport and get there faster(20 blocks notice the sarcasm)lol or even the Sox Staduim or jog from Hyde Park where the University of CHicago is(all of these areas are not 'worlds away' from Englewood).
I mean many things are a jog away, but the fact of the matter is that it is not Englewood(hinting that crime happens outside of Englewood, also). I remember listening to the news and they said that someone got shot on 21st and Halsted in/near Chinatown and they called it Englewood. I mean people need to get their facts straight.

Really? Crime happens outside of Englewood too? Well, who knew?
I guess Englewood is as safe as any other place after all.

Not to be snarky, but isn't 21st and Halsted further from Chinatown than 53rd and Halsted is from Englewood?

Exactly my sentiments! And the nerve of media reporters to say that it was Englewood. I guess Englewood is the scapegoat for crime in Chicago .

You need to re-read what mycrows posted. I don't think you understand.

Sublease sublease sublease!
Chicago and other major cities have gobs of empty condos or, sellers desperate to sell or rent out (for any number of reasons.) If your credit is decent, you should have no problems.
Check the south loop. My gf subleased a place w/2 bedrooms included all utilities, security, cable, w/d, off street parking for under $1300. That may be out of your range but you may be able to negotiate.
