Be Careful When Looking

You may find a 2 bedroom for 800 but it will probably be in a dicey area and you'll have lots of little brown bugs with hard shells on their backs. I am a native Chicagoan and you get what you pay for there. Be careful because Chicago can look one way during the day and be a whole other animal at night, so be careful. If you do go with the north side watch out for East Rogers Park and Humboldt Park-you may find your price range there but it is sketchy. My husband is a teacher and we left after a year because CPS is full of it. Good Luck to you-Chicago is a really vibrant city-enjoy it!

You'd be safer in Baghdad than Englewood. A horrible terrible neighbourhood. Tied with Lawndale as "America's Most Dangerous Places to Live". And if you are white don't even think of driving through it! If you are black and have anything of value- such as your LIFE- don't go there. Try Chatham or Hyde Park.

Hey teacher Man
I read your post and see you have been looking for housing on the Southside. I also noticed someone mentioned pullman. I just recently purchased a home in the historic part of pullman. The nieghboorhood is very diverse. Alot of long time residents that have been there for 30+ years. A good mix of White, African America, Hispanic, as well as striaght and gay/lesbian. Its like living in a little pocket set back in time. It is truly a food place to raise a family. There always seem to be children always out playing.
There are rentals avialable as well as many reasonable homes for sale. Portions of the nieghboor hood are in various degrees of resortation. I feel completely safe walking around the nieghboor.
As for transportation.. I work in lincoln park it takes about an hour for me to get to work I bypass the Dyan Ryan for now. My partner works downtown and she catches the Metra Train which is only 4 block from our home on 115th st there is a 2nd stop on 111th st it takes her 20 min to arrive at the downtown stations.
hope this helps feel free to look it up just google Historic Pullman Chicago IL

West Side/NorthWest Side of Chicago is the Worst. Humboldt Park, Logan Park, and the Austin Neighborhood are the three worst neigbhorhoods in Chicago. Englewoods not great, but it's not the worst part of Chicago. New City in the Southsides worst.
Oh and please, Chicago police lie about the murder rate, we all know that, give me a break. Chicago Police are crooked liars, that hide murders, because there so embarrassed that they haven't been able to curb crime Like L.A, and NYC.
Reminder.

The SouthSide got the reputation of being the worst in the 60's and 70's. Alots Changed since then, West Side/Northwest is now the worst.

Yes, the Northwest Side is among the worst. We're all quaking in fear for our lives up here in Irving Park, Albany Park, Wicker Park, Bucktown, Sauganash, Norwood Park, Jefferson Park, Edison Park, Oriole Park, Edgebrook, Portage Park, etc. etc. etc. You identify two whole trouble spots out of the 15 or so neighborhoods that comprise the Northwest side (Where the hell is "Logan Park" anyway?), both of which are getting better rather than worse, and you say the Northwest side is one of the worst? Meanwhile, the article you cite reveals a discrepancy between police records and the medical examiners' office of less than 3 percent. "You mean to tell me that Chicago's murder rate is really closer to 460 per year than 450 per year? Oh My GOD!! My illusion of safety has been so totally shattered!!"
Obtain a clue.

I found that map interesting
I would like to look at that map more in-depth. Do you happen to have the link available for it?
Please let me know when you have a chance.
Thanks,
