Default Downtown

My girlfriend and I are considering moving to Chicago. If we wanted to live in downtown Chicago, how much would we have to make in total? To be able to afford a small condo/apt, enjoy the culture, go on vacation once a year, etc. I am trying to gauge how much I would need to ask for at a job interview. We wouldn't eat out too often. We currently live in metro Detroit.

First of all, when you say downtown, do you mean anywhere in the city limits of Chicago (which is often what people from the 'burbs and outside the city mean when they say 'downtown) or do you mean within the LOOP? Secondly, when you say a small apt/condo, do you want to buy one? or do you want to rent one? Because the price of purchasing a one-bedroom apt is much different than renting one, and the cost of a one bedroom apt in the city limits is much different than a one bedroom in the LOOP. I pay 650 for my basic and older one bedroom that I rent in a neighborhood about 3 miles northwest of the LOOP, but if I lived in the LOOP, it would probably be twice as much if not more to rent.

Go to rent.com and do a search .. depends on what you want. 1BR's start at about 1K/month.

Checkout Printers Row & South Loop. Plenty of lofts to be had 'downtown' priced from $1,400+.

The loop is a part of downtown, about 25 percent of downtown. I would check just south of downtown it's still reasonable.

Wow, this might be one of the oldest posts I've ever seen dragged back up.

IDK ,there were a couple last night that might have been older. Now do you see why I wanted the old posts that were not commented on much and answered in other posts deleted?
